How to determine where to go for the right care
Community Health is part of “Right Care, Right Place” to help you determine the most appropriate place to go and what the options are when someone is ill, in crisis or injured.
Knowing what is available and how to react is important.
The choices are:
- Primary Care
- Express Care
- Hospital Emergency Department
Your primary care provider should be your first choice unless it is a life-threatening situation. In life-threatening situations, call 911.
These questions can help determine the right course of action:
- The first question always is – Is this a life-threatening situation? If so, call 911 for the most immediate response.
- Is this a chronic care visit with my primary care doctor?
- Is this a minor illness or injury where I can just walk into Express Care to be seen?
Primary Care is the right choice for wellness visits, monitoring chronic health conditions and following up from hospital visits. It’s also a good place for acute visits that do not require an emergency visit.
Express Care offers care for minor injuries or illnesses after hours or on weekends when your primary care provider is unavailable. Community Health’s Express Care in Rutland and Castleton offer walk-in services.
Emergency Department is the best place to go when illnesses or injuries are more severe where more extensive services may be needed.
